TONLE SAP LAKE

On her journey across Southeast Asia, Anissa spent time in Cambodia to document the environmental challenges facing the Tonle Sap Lake, one of the most important freshwater ecosystems in the world. The lake and its surrounding ecosystems are under increasing pressure from deforestation, infrastructure development, climate change, and destructive fishing practices — all of which threaten both biodiversity and the millions of people who depend on its resources.

While there, she collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to highlight the work they have been doing alongside local communities to restore degraded areas, protect vital habitats, and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Through her images, Anissa aimed to showcase both the urgency of the threats and the resilience of those fighting to protect this essential ecosystem.
