HONG KONG SHARK TRADE

On her overland journey from Malaysia to France to attend the United Nations Ocean Conference, a trip completed entirely without flying, Anissa made a stop in Hong Kong to document the city’s shark fin trade. Hong Kong remains one of the world’s largest trading hubs for shark fins, a practice that threatens global shark populations and marine ecosystems.

During her time there, she collaborated with the Hong Kong Shark Foundation, an NGO working to raise awareness, reduce consumer demand, and advocate for stronger protections for sharks.

Through her photography, Anissa aimed to shed light on the scale of this industry and its devastating impact on ocean biodiversity.
