ATLANTIC CROSSING

In November 2025, Anissa made the decision to cross the Atlantic Ocean by sailboat as part of her journey to reach South America without flying.

The idea for this transatlantic crossing was born a few months earlier during the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), where she spent time with major ocean protection organizations and some of the world’s leading ocean advocates. Being immersed in these conversations, projects, and commitments to ocean conservation played a key role in shaping her decision.

Departing from Europe, the journey followed a slow maritime route from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, through Spain, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde before reaching the Caribbean.

Spending weeks at sea offered a direct and intimate connection with the ocean. Witnessing marine life, changing weather and human impact far from land reinforced Anissa’s commitment to ocean protection and environmental storytelling.
